Customer Review: Jaw Dropping
I paired this up with my Blue-Ray player and you will never go back. Totally different viewing experience that has to be seen to be believed. The 1080p / 50,00-1 contrast ratio is as good as it gets and compared to "other" brands with higher prices, this does the same exact thing for 400 to 600 dollars LESS. I did my research ;p. Now get this TV.

Customer Review: Good but out of date
This book is written well and explains the technology well, and is a good reference for the basic design and set-up. However, items mentioned as coming in the future are already standard. The HD TV and Home Theater technology is changing so fast it is hard to write, print and distribute a book and keep it current.
Customer Review: Home Theater for Dummies
This was a well written basics type book. Definitely good for someone who knows nothing about home theater.

Customer Review: Nice TV
I have had this TV for about a month and I really like it. The picture is clear, the sound is good, the controls are easy to work. It makes a funny chiming sound when you turn it on and off but I read the manual and figured out how to turn that off. For the price, it can't be beat.
Customer Review: Disappointed in audio quality
I purchased the Samsung after my Sony Wega 19" LCD's video display computer board went bad. The Samsung got such good reviews, and there really isn't a lot to choose from in a 19" LCD that was under 16" tall (to fit under my kitchen cabinets), so I chose the Samsung. I like everything about it pretty much except for the audio sound. The speakers are coming from the back of the TV and it sounds very tinny and echo-y. I'm so used to the phenomenal sound of the Sony Wega (which they do not make anymore) that I'm having a hard time getting used to the lower quality audio of the Samsung. I didn't go with the Sony Bravia 19" because of the little stand that is used to prop up the TV and the reviews were low because of that. I'm seriously considering, though, rethinking the Sony Bravia. It's far more expensive, another $80-$100, but I was well-compensated from the extended warranty that I purchased with the original Sony, that the price really isn't a factor. The Sony Wega was a perfect specimen of what a small LCD TV should be...too bad Sony discontinued it.

Super Clear Panel

clear panel chart
Samsung enhances the clarity of select LCD HDTVs by replacing the light-diffusing plastic face of traditional LCD HDTVs with a  natural black panel with a clear anti-glare shield. Reduced reflection of external light creates a new dimension in image clarity, highlighting black and darkened areas, enabling vibrant, more compelling colors and a brighter, clearer picture.  Black will never again appear grayish. Black details will show in vivid black even in dark scenes.

The latest version of Samsungs breakthrough super clear panel technology makes colors appear more vibrant and blacks even deeper than ever. Enhanced films reduce glare and optimize off-angle viewing.

Wide Color Enhancer/Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp

The NTSC (National Television Systems Committee) has established the color standards all TVs in America try to meet. And typical LCD TVs only meet about 72% of this standard. Samsung LCD HDTVs use Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp back lights to give you 92% coverage of the NTSC standard, ensuring truer, more breathlessly vivid colors.

Samsungs exclusive Wide Color Enhancer technology delivers more brilliant colors, even in bright areas of the picture where blues and greens are washed out on conventional screens. Audio Features

TruSurround is a patented SRS technology that solves the problem of playing 5.1 multichannel content over two speakers. TruSurround delivers a compelling, virtual surround sound experience through any two-speaker playback system, including internal television speakers and headphones. It is fully compatible with all multichannel formats up to 5.1 channels. High-quality virtual surround sound can be experienced with just the two hidden, downward-firing side-mounted 2.2-channel dome speakers built into the TV.

SRS TruSurround XT technology delivers an amazing, simulated 3D effect with clear dialog and powerful bass.

TruSurround XT audio also adds three audio enhancement technologies to produce an amazingly immersive sound experience.
  • Dialog Clarity brings movie dialog into Focus during the playback of any surround-encoded material to make speech much clearer and crisper.
  • TruBass creates incredible deep rich bass allowing a person to perceive significantly deeper, richer low bass tones that are far beyond the physical low frequency capabilities of the speaker itself.
  • The SRS WOW feature widens the sound stage by processing standard two-channel stereo material as well as multi-channel encoded material for a dramatic improvement in the playback of any stereo audio over a two-speaker system.
Stereo broadcast reception is offered for MTS and SAP with 181-channel capacity. A sound leveler keeps audio volume consistent during channel changing.

Which Size HDTV is Right for My Room?

HDTV Size chart
With standard-definition TVs, the rule used to be that viewers would feel comfortable watching a set from a distance of 3 to 6 times the screen size in inches. With HDTV, the resolution is so much better that you can sit closer to a larger TV without noticing the pixels. So with HDTVs, the rule tends to be you can sit anywhere from 1.5 to 3 times the screen size (in inches) for the best experience.
If you know the size of the room you have already, where you want to sit, and where your new HDTV should go once you get it, you can figure out the size HDTV you should get.
  • Minimum size = Viewing distance/3
  • Maximum size=Viewing distance/1.5

Sharp LC 42SB45U - 42" LCD TV - widescreen - 1080p (FullHD) - HDTV - black

Marketing description is not available.
Customer Review: Not an Aquos model, but solid 1080p performance and great value
Before I start, let me point out that this Sharp 1080p HDTV, LC-42SB45U, is *not* a model from their state-of-the-art Aquos line, which costs much more. I bought mine from Dell at a great price, and then realized this was not an Aquos. This is from what Sharp marketing geniuses call their "traditional LCD" line. (The Japanese are really great at marketing, aren't they?) This TV is made in China, underlining its value branding. I struggled between giving this a 4-star vs. a 5-star rating. I'll explain. Picture quality-wise, it's excellent at 1080p -- I use it with my 60GB PS3 (which upconverts DVDs) -- with great contrast, smooth graphics and vibrant color (Sharp is best at color reproduction on LCD panels). The response time is 6 ms, and the viewing angle is an astonishing 176 degrees, both horizontally and vertidcally. (A flat surface has 180 degrees.) The maximum brightness is sufficient to allow you to use this set outdoors, on a patio, for example. (My old LCD TVs could not do this.) I'm a movie buff so I watch a lot of Blu-rays and DVDs and have been very happy. (Tip: when using PS3's upscaling, set it to Normal, not Double Scale.) The built-in speakers (non-detachable) are passable for a small living room; you might want to use a home theater for hi-fi sound anyway. When playing non-HDMI input materials -- e.g., from a traditional non-upconverting DVD player, an old VCR or non-HD cable content -- the picture quality is only average, hence my originally hesitation at giving this set a full 5-star endorsement. My guess is for this "traditional" (i.e., value) line, Sharp does not have a good non-HD upscaling engine that can improve the quality of non-HD images, or maybe it doesn't have one such engine at all. You'll notice aliasing artifacts that are absent from upconverted and native 1080 materials. (The Aquos models, on the other hand, excel at non-HD images as well.) In the end, given the price I paid and given the solid build of the set, I feel I got a really good value, and when used with a PS3, this inexpensive 42" (actually 42 1/64" diagonally) 1080p LCD HDTV is terrific. Since I use it pretty much exclusively with my PS3, I'm very happy. Of course, you should be aware of its middling performance with non-HD content.

AOC 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV

The LCD-HDTV with remarkable picture and sound in the house with modern styling this modern design is sure to compliment your home or office. With inputs such as HDMI for the best connectivity and NTSC/ATSC tuners with Clear QAM for high definition signal reception, all that's left to decide is what to watch this weekend.
Customer Review: Great TV for the price...
For that price($380) you can't go wrong with this. It was easy to setup(pretty much plug and play) but you need to attach the base to the TV with 6 screw. Picture looks good on Standard channels and great on HD (amazed that DirecTV has universal remote code for this TV). With contrast ratio of 1,500:1; it is better than most comparable brands. This works great being PC monitor too. I have this TV in my loft area and it fits really well. Cons: No PIP, one HDMI port and speakers are a little weak. Watch a football game on HD; it BLOWS. If you are looking for a budget and decent TV, the L32W761 fits you.

    Customer Review: dissapointing
I some how missed the fact that this tv has NO HDMI connection. That may not be a big deal now, but it will be in months to come. The only other real complaint is that there is no way to bypass the digital sub channels when scrolling up or down. If your station is broadcasting the main ch. and 2 or 3 sub channels this set stops at each one. You can delete the whole group, but not just the subs...I have never seen a TV with this limitation. This problem could have been worked around with a favorites list, but thats not there either. The price and picture are good, but this tv is not in step with modern HD technology.
    Customer Review: came in handy
I bought the TV just for the bedroom and ended up using it as a PC monitor as well as a television set. The built in tuner works great and allows me to get some HD channels that I couldn't get with my set top tuner. Very happy with it. The only downside would be the size. I didn't realize how small a 19 inch TV is because I'm use to my bigger TV in the living room.

    Customer Review: Satisfied
Great TV, great price compared to the big box stores. Like the others have mentioned, the TV speakers arent the greatest.
Customer Review: sopped working after 2 days
The TV worked great for 2 days--the picture, features, functionality were just what I hoped for. But then after 2 days it turned itself off and went into an infinite loop of turning itself off and on again. I have a service request in to Samsung and will update this post when the issue is resolved. It seemed important to point out potential manufacturing problems with these very popular units.

    Customer Review: Fantastic TV
This machine is high style, slim and compact and has terrific picture clarity. Mine is a 26" which is perfect for a 12 foot wide room. I could get it into my apt with help of a cart, unpacked it and set it up by myself. Easy. The built in DVD player is sensitive to dirty discs, so I clean each one first that comes from a rental. Excellent value. Remote works great - takes a little study for the complicated stuff the TV can do. Have owned it over a year. 5 star.
Customer Review: Great bang for the buck
For the money, you can't beat this TV. I sell the initial TV's quite often, and have never had any problem. Great picture, easy to use.

I find this product top notch. Easy to setup an use.Connected to my satellite reciever with hdmi cable beautiful picture, color an detail. M 3rd SONY TV 2ND HI-DEF 50" in greatroom. this in our bedroom.Great tv.
Customer Review: Great product at a great price!
Arrived safely before promised delivery date. Setup was a breeze. Picture quality on digital channels outstanding, analog channels better than previous analog TV (12 year old Sony). I was concerned about picture quality (for example drop-outs on digital channels) because although we are on cable, this particular outlet had been split into three therefore giving weak signal. But the digital channels are incredible. Price I paid was much lower than best offers from Best Buy and Circuit City.

i got this tv at a local long-time dealer (since 1949) AND IT IS a nice looking set. however, I am having problems with it knocking out part of the sound during shows. sometimes it gets so bad, i have to turn it off for 10 min. and let it cool off. today i got a new part for the problem and guess, what, the problem is still there. i am going to have dealer take it back and get a Sony.
Customer Review: TOSHIBA KILLS SANTA for my kid
NOTE: this is a general review of Toshiba's customer service center. Should you have any concerns about what may happen when or if you tv breaks, this is the chaos and frustration you will find in dealing with them. Please go with a different brand... We bought a TV/DVD combo from Toshiba as a gift from Santa last year for my 8-year old so that she could watch her Full House and Lizzie McGuire movies on it in her bedroom. Unfortunately, after 4 months, the tv's picture stopped working. She told me to send it back to Santa, so off it went to our local authorized Toshiba repairman, as you cannot return these items to Amazon after a certain period of time. We were told by Toshiba that the tv was under full warranty for parts and service. The repairman said no. We would have to pay at least $80 in service repairs. Well, it's been six months and we have yet to see our tv. The part that was supposedly broken was out of stock. Toshiba has sent out part after part after part...spending more in shipping and parts I'm sure than we actually paid for the tv. Now they are shipping out their 4th part...and we still have no tv and it's November. NOTE: the Toshiba representatives were rude and their supervisor (Dave Thomson) was scripted and condescending. TOSHIBA DOES NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND DOES NOT HELP ITS CUSTOMERS. My daughter got so upset that Santa didn't return her tv that we had to buy her another tv a few months ago. Then, she overheard one of the numerous heated discussions between my husband and Toshiba. Every time my husband called, we were told the issue would be "escalated". The representatives are scripted and said whatever they could to passify us. In the end, we were told by Toshiba's supervisor (Dave Thomson) that this was their final decision...to just continue to keep trying to fix an inferior product with no hope that it may get fixed. By the time we get the tv back, if we get it back, it will no longer be under warranty. In the end, with no return of her original tv and the numerous phone calls to/from Toshiba, my daughter finally got the clue and realized Santa doesn't exist. Thanks Toshiba. MAY NO PARENT EVER RELY ON YOUR PRODUCT AGAIN! THE TECHNOLOGY IS LOUSY AND YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS AN EMBARRASSMENT! GIVEN HOW TIGHT CONSUMERS' WALLETS ARE THIS SEASON, I HOPE PEOPLE LOOK PASSED YOUR BRAND AND SELECT A BETTER CHOICE. FYI...When we purchased the tv, it was not made clear to us that it would be outdated within 14 months with the switch to digital. Happy Holidays from a very dissatisfied customer.
